Bird's Eye View of Downtown Ottawa, Conceptual
2011
Ink
Second term illustration was a struggle for a lot of us. While the first term focused on photo-realism, which is actually the simplest style of art for most people, this time we were discouraged from using photo references.
We were told to choose a city and draw it from a bird's eye view in an interesting and 'conceptual' way, meaning that it shouldn't be accurate. If you've been to downtown Ottawa you'll know that this isn't really what it looks like. The buildings have been sized down and placed much closer together, with a lot of other things left out.
The hardest thing for me was to draw from a bird's eye view with no photos to work from.
