I've been striving for realism in my portrait paintings for a long time now, but in the back of my mind was the (subconsious?) thought that in this day and age, a painting should set out, first and foremost, to be a painting. And what makes a painting stand out as being such? Some of the things that come to my mind are: use of abstract colour to symbolize meaning, heavy, Impressionist style brush strokes, and unusual uses of light. There are others of course, but these are the ones that I focused on this time.

So yes, this painting does have a deeper (and personal) meaning, and along with the title, those that know me well will probably be able to figure some of it out for themselves. Speculate at will.
