Winter
2011
Oil on canvas
24" x 18"
$400

I strove for two things in this painting. First, to treat my background objects as equally important to my main subject, and second, to make my background look like it's in the background. This is more difficult than it sounds. In real life, the farther away an object, the more its colours fade to a neutral grey or bluish tint. If you're going for realism, background colours shouldn't be as vibrant and bright as the ones in the foreground.

I used the BBC's Planet Earth TV series as a reference guide for this painting.
