Like Disney Land, Krispy Kreme once seemed like the kind of place where the usual laws of customer physics didn't apply. You went there resigned to waiting in a line and knew that nothing, barring the apocalypse, would change that. But change it did, and right now Krispy Kreme must be wondering where the magic went. Could it be that the Japanese, the universal masters of the line up, have gotten bored?
The moment. Krispy Kreme in Ginza, empty, at 10:00 in the morning. But I know what you're thinking.
"10 am? Come on! Who lines up for donuts at 10am?"
"Japanese people, that's who. And if you're in any doubt, check out this picture and article from 11 months ago, which shows an hour and 20 minute line up at 10 am on Thursday."
Total number of customers currently here? Two. I was reasonably sure that I wouldn't be getting the usual complimentary doughnut in this line up.
The funny thing was, even with a zero wait time, and stress free Krispy Kreme's all but in my hand, I had no desire to eat them either.
Sorry K.K., but like McDonalds, Starbucks and Burger King before you, you're now passe. The only thing left to do is open up a gazillion shops to hopefully keep your profit margins high.
There are now 7 shops around Tokyo, anyone know how the others are doing?
