A
good example of Japanese fast food. As you can see from the menu,
Matsuya serves up a pretty decent combo of rice, plus a choice of
meat, as well as a salad and a bowl of miso soup. It isn't the best
meal you've ever had but you could sure do a lot worse, like buying
lunch at the 7-11 or something, ewwww.... (I'll come back to that
later). Matsuya means something like 'pine tree shop'. I don't know
how that's supposed to connect with rice and fried meat, but thinking
about it doesn't keep me up too late at night. Matsuya uses the
'pay before you eat' system, which is remarkably convenient. You
put your money in the menu machine, select what you want and push
the appropriate button. It spits out a ticket which you then place
on the counter after you sit down. One of the staff will run up,
grab your ticket and stick your meal in front of you in about 5
minutes. No questions are asked so you don't have to say a thing!
Great for deaf-mutes and gaijin who don't speak Japanese.
