Two Cats and a Duck... | (Entered Nov. 10, 2007) | Random Musings... | |||||||
Cats again? Yes, and more to follow after these ones! What's with all the cats you might ask? I'm actually not one of those cat fetishists like you might think, although I confess that I do like them. No, there's just something about cats that lend themselves to being painted, well at least for me. With my art show coming up next month, I had thought about making cats my theme, but then I realized that I didn't have as many of them as I need, or the time to paint enough of them for the show. So I fell back to plan B which was to do a general animal theme (with cats being kinda prominent). I've never been a big scenery painter, nor understood why so many artists feel the need to paint forests, mountains and skies (although I did do my token Mt. Fuji picture, just to try and fit in perhaps?). I find paintings of people, and animals especially, much more interesting. Except for Robert Bateman, I've always been puzzled why no one else seems to paint them. Anyway with that decided, I broke up the monotony of cats and threw in a duck as my third painting. More cats will be coming though so don't hold your collective breaths thinking you've seen the last of them. Rhubarb, in my opinion, is by far the best of the set I've just finished, as well as the biggest painting I've done so far. A good start back into painting after not having done anything for months. I had this idea of using Tora's browish/black colouring for the background, and making Tora himself blue just to, you know, shake the art community of the world to it's very foundations! Ok maybe next time.... It's a duck.... I figured I needed a little break from cats, so I threw in this duck that I took a picture of about a year ago. It started off alright but I don't really like the end result. Looks too cartoony, or childish somehow. Background also too boring maybe.... More paintings coming soon.
