Canada Day! | (Entered Jul. 01, 2004) | Random Musings... | |||||||
Today Canada is 137 years old! A bit of history for you: Way back in 1867 the British North American Act united the British colonies of Upper Canada, Lower Canada, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia into one dominion named 'Canada'. The day was actually called 'Dominion Day' until as late as 1982, but by then no one referred to it as such anymore, so on October 27th of the same year, the name was officially changed to Canada Day. Nowdays, Canada Day is the biggest celebration and party in Canada except for perhaps New Year's. Ottawa is the place to be with most of the city congregating around the downtown core, partying the whole day, watching fireworks in the evening, then partying more at night. Wish I could be there!
