I continue to be busy with my artwork in preperation for my 2nd art show (November this year) once again at the Pink Cow. You heard about it first here! More details to come later. Hopefully I can get a great turnout of support like I had for the first show. I've come to realize that my favourite type of art is the kind that makes you think, the kind that stirs your imagination, that makes you wonder at what the story behind the painting is. Anyone who's seen my previous work will know I enjoy painting animals, but in general, animal portraits lack the above described quality. With that in mind, I set out to make an interesting (bizarre?) painting that also incorporated animals. Don't ask me where this idea came from, it just popped into my head. Sheep on the Hunt
Despite what I just said about moving away from simple animal portraits, there are going to be some exceptions of course. The original photograph was taken by Jason Collin, which along with his Mt. Fuji photo are two of my all time favourites. When I saw it I knew I had to paint it. Other reasons to paint it? Voila! Coy Koi
My younger brother has been playing guitar since he was a kid, is a member of various bands, and has released a few CDs. I remember way back when I heard him and his band play for the first time at one of Ottawa's (my hometown) most popular music festivals (Bluesfest) and being stunned at how good he was. Until that time, no one in my family had really heard him play before. This portrait is based on a picture taken when he was the lead singer and guitarist in the above mentioned band called Resonator. This is the second in a series of four sibling portraits that started with Liz, my youngest sister, and will finish with me, the oldest. Cathy, you're next! Resonator |
