I wanted to paint something straight out of my head instead of using a photograph like I usually do. For some reason, this image just popped into my mind, and I got it down on canvas quickly before it faded.
I was going for a slightly disturbing feeling/atmosphere, but not sure how other people will see it.

This painting came from a desire to do more artwork that focuses on people, and to try something different than my usual nature/animal themed work.
However I also wanted to do something with bright colours as well as use the theme of traditional Japan. What could be better than a young Japanese girl in a kimono?

I'm a member of a website called 'fanartreview.com', where artists and photographers go to promote and critique each other's art. One time I stumbled upon this picture of a parrot that just blew me away with it's beautiful colours. I asked the guy who took the picture, whose online name is Joemc, if I could paint it. He very kindly gave me permission to do so, and full rights to sell it as well. Here's the finished result.

This painting pretty much speaks for itself. A portrait of my wife, Kumi.
Taken from one of my favourite pictures of Kumi from our wedding party.
