Art Show at the Pink Cow! (Entered Dec. 13, 2007)     Random Musings...

After months of planning, delays, procrastination, etc, my artwork is finally up on display for the first time ever thanks to Traci Consoli who offers free art space to amateur artists like myself at her Shibuya/Harajuku restaurant The Pink Cow. My art will be on display in the bar area for the month of December so feel free to drop by anytime for a look as well as some great food and atmosphere.

It was way back in the early summer when I first asked Traci about the possibility of hanging my art up sometime. She responded positively and after a few more emails she found an opening for me in December. However I would have to share the slot with another artist. The Pink Cow has a main restaurant area, and a smaller bar area. Traci only allows large sized paintings in the main restaurant area however, and since mine were mostly small, I would only be able to use the bar area. Turns out that the other artist didn't want to use the bar area so this worked out nicely for me.

December seemed far, far away in the future though. I didn't need to rush. Like any good procrastinator, I decided to get to work on some new paintings in a month or two. Well the summer went by quickly, then it was suddenly October and I was getting ready to move to my new apartment. How could I paint when packing and moving my stuff around? I realized that I would have only the month of November to complete at least 5-6 new paintings. Actually only the first two weeks of November since I needed to give them a little time to dry before I displayed them. So I painted up a storm. Three more cats, a duck and an ibex. I had wanted to use just cats for my theme, but I realized I didn't have time to paint as many as I needed so my new theme became 'animals'.

Pink Cow Art Reception

Part of the free art space deal at the Pink Cow involves having an artist reception. I was a bit unsure about it though. How many people would really want to come to see my paintings? I was unprepared for, and quite touched by, the level of support I got though. After asking a few people, I got a few affirmatives and some maybes. I figured there would be about 10 people there, 15 tops. However about 30 people came in total! I even got some flowers and gifts!

Most surprising of all though was that people actually bought my paintings. Traci (the owner) was first. She sent me an email saying she would buy two of them. Then at the reception I sold 5 more! I tried to be calm and cool about it, like I've been selling paintings for years, but inside I was shocked. Happy of course, but shocked. I never expected to sell any of them. So thanks to all you art connoisseurs! And thanks to everybody who came out!
